Business Description

This organisation has measured the total greenhouse gas emissions caused by its operations and supply chain and has achieved net zero emissions by reducing its emissions and, where necessary, investing in carbon offsetting projects. Greenhouse gas emissions (including carbon emissions) caused by human activities are the most significant driver of climate change.

Product Criteria

  • The business should have performed a life cycle assessment
  • The measurement should include all three scopes (only scope 3 downstream emissions may be excluded)
  • The business should have reduced the product's footprint wherever possible before turning to offsets
  • Offsets must come from a reputable source (eg: Gold Standard) and actively remove or sequester greenhouse gases

Business Criteria

  • The measurement should include emissions from Scopes 1 and 2 and at a minimum all significant sources of emissions in scope 3 such as business travel, outsourced digital hosting, freight, purchased goods.
  • Offsets must come from a reputable source (eg: Gold Standard) and actively remove or sequester greenhouse gases
  • The business should have reduced its footprint wherever possible before turning to offsets, most companies will require decarbonization of 90-95% (SBTi)

Publication Requirements

  • The business should specify how much was reduced vs. offset
  • The business should specify the programs used to offset emissions
  • The business should state any Science-Based Targets that have been set

Accepted Evidence

Evidence should strongly support the claim and will be made publicly available

  • Calculation details
  • Proof of carbon reduction
  • Proof of purchase of carbon credits
  • Details of carbon measurement
  • Report from an accredited organisation

Accepted Verifiers

Verifiers are third parties who can confirm the validity of a given Proof Point

  • Carbon measurement platform – e.g. CDP or SBTi
  • Carbon or sustainability consultancy
  • Offsetting partner
